Most Valuable Angel

Does having the right angel investor make a difference?  A recent Harvard study says so...

The study, authored by William R. Kerr, Josh Lerner and Antoinette Schoar, concludes angel-backed startups last longer and grow faster than companies that don’t receive angel support, thanks in large part to the expertise and due diligence of the angels that fund them. “Overall, the results suggest that the bundle of inputs that angel investors provide have a large and significant impact on the success and survival of startup ventures,” the study says.

So which angel investors go above and beyond the call of duty in New York City?  This isn't a question of who has the best track record.  It's about who goes the extra mile for their companies through their hard work, mentoring, useful advice, introductions, and all the other things that make for a great angel. Did you have an angel help you pull together your funding round? Land a big client? Make a critical introduction? Maybe they gave you a piece of vital strategic advice that changed the direction of your company for the better. Please nominate below the person you think deserves consideration for 'Most Valuable Angel of the Year'.

Note: the only requirement for nomination is that the angel have made at least one personal investment in a New York CIty-based startup during 2010.

New York Angels is a group of 75 serial entrepreneurs, CEOs, venture capitalists and business leaders who have founded, funded and built world-class companies ourselves, and are now actively working to help our fellow New York-based entrepreneurs execute on similar world-class visions. We have invested over $42 million into more than 60 startups during the past five years, mentor and coach the entrepreneurs in whom we invest, serve on their boards, provide introductions and assist with team building, strategic planning and fundraising.

Most of our investments are seed and first rounds in the range of $250,000 - $750,000
and we are one of the few groups who don't require that you 'know somebody' in order to pitch us.
